I became hooked on Louisiana when interviewing for veterinary school. Crawfish boils, friendly people, azaleas blooming - what a contrast to the small Baptist undergraduate college I attended! I received my DVM from LSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. I love practicing veterinary medicine, and am constantly surprised and fascinated by the cases I see every day. I love to be challenged. Living in the South, one has to have an interest in dermatology, especially in allergies, but my new interest is in how to help animals that have cancer - different treatments that include chemotherapy and nutrition - so that we can make a difference in their comfort and quality of life.
I was raised an Army brat, and so have lived in many different states, and even overseas, but Baton Rouge has been my home for 20 years. Like many working moms, I am busy, but try to balance my time between HRAH and my husband Tim, three children, and two dogs Gator and Rhett.
I feel extremely fortunate to wake up each morning and know that when I go into work, I will be doing something that I truly love. Throughout my entire life, I have enjoyed working with animals, and I have always been interested in biological sciences. It was, therefore, an obvious choice to become a veterinarian. Practicing at Highland Road Animal Hospital is truly my dream job as I am a native of South Baton Rouge and I have always wanted to raise my family in this area. My interests include surgery, internal medicine, and dermatology, but I truly cherish any opportunity to improve the health and happiness of our four-legged patients. When I’m away from the office, I love spending time with my wife, Katey, my three children, and my dog Evie.
I will never forgot the phone call I received from Dr. Thayer (Founder of Highland Road Animal Hospital) inviting me to join his team at Highland Road Animal Hospital. I was thrilled and gladly accepted his offer knowing that I was joining a progressive and highly reputable animal hospital.
I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana but Baton Rouge won me over once I started LSU and met my husband. Our family consists of two children, 4 cats (Noah, Thomas, Rueben and P’Nina), and a Bearded Dragon (Toothless).
It gives me great satisfaction in being able to help clients and their pets. I have developed wonderful relationships and am honored to be the care taker of many furry family members. I enjoy learning new aspects of Veterinary Medicine through continuing education. And I have a special interest in feline medicine and surgery. I look forward to you visiting our practice and becoming a part of our family.
I LOVE my job! I feel very lucky to be a part of such a great profession and a practice as great as HRAH. The thing I love the most about veterinary medicine is the diversity. I don’t have an area of special interest…I like it all! My favorite part is seeing a patient as an adult that I started seeing as a puppy or kitten.
I joined the team here in the spring of 2008. Before that I worked at a large practice in the New Orleans Area. I went to the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in the class of 2006. I grew up in Zachary, LA and moved back there in the spring of 2011. I share my home with 2 dogs Sam and Celia, a cat named Penny, and my son Ethan.
