Highland Road Animal Hospital Goes Green
“He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion”

Going Green
Highland Road Animal Hospital is excited to be breaking ground on a brand new environmentally friendly facility directly behind our current building. The new building will be approximately 10,000 square feet of veterinary bliss!
Your dog will be sad to leave once he or she has spent time in our indoor-outdoor runs including a fenced paddock for exercise. Your cat will be the envy of the neighborhood lounging in her cat condo gazing out the window at the bird feeder courtyard. We have provided for separate spacious areas for boarding, medical, surgical, and treatment. In addition, we will have a conference room.
What does "green" mean?
Green is a term widely used to describe buildings designed and constructed with minimal negative impact on the environment and with an emphasis on conservation of resources, energy efficiency, and healthful interior spaces.
How will Highland Road Animal Hospital be green? Efficiently zoned A/C units will allow us to control our cooling systems as easily as you control the light switches in your home. Our metal roof will reflect heat instead of absorbing it and will last a lifetime. We use digital radiology for taking x-rays of your pet, which does not require the use of chemicals.
We are incorporating natural lighting throughout our building including solar tubes for interior lighting. Compact fluorescent bulbs will be used for task lighting throughout. We will install window shades to block the worst of the sun’s heat while still allowing natural light inside.
"Smart flooring" is efficient by including epoxy and low maintenance floors that don’t require chemicals to clean. All of our walls will be painted with low VOC paints (VOC’s are volatile organic compounds such as solvents that get released into the air as paint dries and can be harmful).
We haven’t forgotten about the outside either! We plan to landscape with native plants to Louisiana and implement a water runoff capture basin to keep our plants vigorous and moist by utilizing rain water. Check back online often to see pictures of the progress we’re making on our new building.
